The push to teach "intelligent design" raises a question:
Does God have a place in science class?

Dear Claudia Wallis,
God does have a place in the science class, because if you exclude him you exclude the real reason for truth and the basis for morals.
Under evolutionary doctrine the only reason for truth and morals is the accepted norms of your immediate society. If you are in the criminal or the drug culture of society, then that infuses you with those morals. If you are on the science culture, and making up a good story as to why your research should be well funded for the next few years, then "gilding the lily" with great exaggerating, is the norm, otherwise you may be out of a job. If evolution can be claimed to be researched, that is a soft spot with many investors, as the subject has been promoted excessively as important, even though it has no real industrial benefit.
If you want to spend years in a nice sunny place picking up pieces of old bone and musing about what they could be from, and you can't afford it yourself, then these bones have to tell an exciting story to your financial backers, or it is back to the real world of work.
If the bones tell only of some slight differences in some ape or gibbon, it won't hep you much. But if it tells, or can be construed to tell, of the mythical evolution of "man", and your backers are evolutionists, then you have it made. Hence all the hype and false claims of the proof of human ancestry from the ape/monkey realm, or of feathered dinosaurs, which are soon dropped as science eventually shows the errors of the claims.

Its Gods insistence on the truth and moral standards that makes a good honest society that can research honestly in all areas, and deal honourably with people for the welfare and prosperity of all.
